The key aspects of joint project were considered at the subject seminar held in Ashgabat on July, 26. The specialists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, State Emergency Management Commission at the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Civil Defense Staff, Lebap Velayat Khyakimlik as well as the representatives of various international organizations including Humanitarian Aid European Commission, UN leading subdivisions - UNDP, UNCHR, UNICEF, Red Cross International Committee, Red Crescent National Society and a number of non-governmental organizations took part in the seminar organized by the Turkmen government and Migration International Agency with the assistance of Humanitarian Aid European Commission.
The 2007-2008 project adopted by the Turkmen government is aimed at strengthening the authority’s and communities’ potential in preparation for natural disasters and liquidation of disaster consequences and providing assistance to the people of Turkmenistan residing in the seismic regions. According to the organizers the pilot project will be launched in the eastern region of the country Lebap Velayat in the nearest future. The national experts with assistance of the DIPECHO representatives selected 21 settlements. The best specialists of the civil defense sector will explain the rules of behavior in case of emergency to the local population. The Training Center was opened in the Lebap Velayat. According to the foreign experts personnel potential and scientific base of Turkmenistan promote fulfilling the program tasks. Successful implementation of the 15-months project will provide vast opportunities for expanding its geography popularizing the practice of Lebap Velayat people in other regions of the country. |
