This October Turkmenistan will continue to supply electric power to the Republic of Tajikistan. Till the end of April 2008 one billion kilowatt-hours of electric power will be exported to Tajikistan. In autumn-winter of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 the Turkmenenergo State Corporation of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Turkmenistan will supply about one billion kilowatt-hours of electric power at the price of 2.1 US cents to the Tajik Aluminy Kompaniyasy unitary enterprise and Barki Tocik open joint stock holding company.
The Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan on supplying electric power to the Republic of Tajikistan that had some energy-supply difficulties vividly evidences the development of friendly relations between two countries achieved the high level of intergovernmental dialogue at its new stage. As is known the energy supply bridge Turkmenistan-Tajikistan operated in 1992-2001 but then the problems concerning electric power transit had arisen. Recently the energy ministry officials of both countries specified some aspects of Turkmen-Tajik partnership aiming to maintain and enhance bilateral co-operation. The negotiators reached the consensus on the key issues and agreed the amount of indebtedness of Tajikistan, which was 4962657, 84 US dollars as of today. Stating an intention of maintaining long-term co-operation the Tajik partners undertook to settle the debt within the three-year period.
The increase of export supplies will not affect the local market of Turkmenistan. The growth of electric power production volume will be stipulated by using untapped resources of existing power generating units. The national power budget will be considerably increased within three months when new large electric power station will be put into operation in Dashoguz that will promote increasing yearly power output by 1.7 kilowatt-hours.
Tajikistan is the fourth state where Turkmenistan supplies electric power. In January-June 2007 Turkmenistan increased the electric power export by 11 percents. 837 million kilowatt-hours of electric power were exported to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey that was 12 percents of the total volume of electric power produced in Turkmenistan. |
