On August 13, the solemn ceremony of opening new post control constructed by the GAP Inshaat Turkish Company was held at the Turkmen-Afghan border. The construction project was implemented with assistance of the USA and United Nations Organization.
The heads of the Lebap Velayat, State Custom Service of Turkmenistan, State Border Service, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as well as foreign high-ranking officials including US Assistant Secretary of State on the economic, energy and business issues, Deputy Director of the J5 Department of Central Command, U.S., representative of central Asian Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the Ministry of Justice and DEA attache in Moscow, chairman of the head regional office of the UN Department on Drugs and Crime, Vice Chairman of the State Coordinating Commission for Drug Prevention at the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Turkmenistan and US charge d'affaires ad interim in Turkmenistan took part in the ceremony. According to the participants of the ceremony putting new modern post control into operation is a vivid result of efficient co-operation of Turkmenistan and the USA aimed at providing security in the region, rendering assistance and offering support to the people of Afghanistan. As is well-known Turkmenistan supplies oil products, liquid gas and the other goods to the neighboring states through Imamnazar post control. New terminal will allow bringing control and accessing operations up to the high standards, stopping drug smuggling and increasing the volume of goods transportations that will considerably contribute to the national economy of Afghanistan. The foreign guests appreciated the foreign-policy doctrine of Turkmenistan. The UN intention to open regional center on preventive diplomacy, the structure that has no analogues in the world is the bright symbol of international recognition of positive political course of Turkmenistan. The participants of the ceremony emphasized that Turkmenistan had considerably contributed to the struggle against drug traffic and search for efficient and appropriate ways of this problem solving that was of great importance for the whole world community. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Turkmenistan Abdylkarim Haddam thanked the Turkmen leader and people of Turkmenistan for their help and support, gratuitous supply of electrical energy to the total sum of 300,000 US dollars and full reconstruction of the Afghan part of the Serhetabat-Turgundi railway in particular. The high-ranking official said that Afghan people had appreciated and supported the peace-loving creative policy of independent neutral Turkmenistan aimed at sustainable development of the whole region. Construction of the Atamurat-Imamnazar 100-km motor highway running across the Gulistan virgin region was also completed. |
