The Turkmentel-2007 international telecommunications, telemetry, information technologies and broadcasting equipment exhibition was opened in the Turkmen capital on September 13. The international telecommunications exposition was organised by the Ministry of Communications and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

The world’s telecommunications equipment producers, leading distributors and providers from 12 countries worldwide: Russia, the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, China, Slovenia, Belgium, Turkey, Belarus and Uzbekistan gathered in Turkmenistan to participate in the high technology exposition. Over 50 Turkmen and foreign companies and firms successfully operating on the domestic telecommunications and computer technologies market are among the registered participants.

The Ashgabat exposition will be opened at the largest exhibition hall in the Central Asian region. Turkmen and foreign telecommunications workers, private and state-run companies presented latest achievements and innovations in telecommunications industry. They will receive an opportunity to demonstrate their potential, to offer new ideas and innovations and to find new partners on international high technologies market during the three-day exhibition.

Advanced technologies, latest innovations offered by the leading companies are applied in Turkmenistan’s telecommunications sphere nowadays. During the years of independence the telecommunications sphere has turned into one of the most promising and dynamically developed sector of national economy. Dozens of new generation digital telephone exchanges with the capacity of hundreds of thousands of numbers have been built throughout the country. In Turkmenistan the fiber-optic lines are stretched between the regions and the capital, a satellite transmission system operates, the national cellular communication network is expanded, internet cafes are opened. Internet users in Turkmenistan will considerably increase in number within the next few years. The largest internet provider in Turkmenistan – the Turkmentelekom State Telecommunications Enterprise will expand the Turkmenistan-online project through opening the internet centers in the regions and towns of Turkmenistan. Turkmen specialists will present the new programmes aimed at furthering the project and modernizing the telecommunications systems through applying digital technologies.

A scientific and practical conference will be held within the framework of the Turkmentel-2007 International Exhibition.
