Sport & Tourism : Turkmenistan wins Cambodia in the 2010 World Cup qualification match

The Turkmen national team, who had started in the World Cup qualification round, won 1-0 the Cambodian footballers.

The coaches of the Turkmen national team brought 13 sportsmen, eight main players and three substitute players, to Pnompenh, where this year’s first official match was held at the Olympic Stadium.

The high humidity and closeness of the weather left its mark on the game. In the first half the sportsmen did not demonstrate the good combinations. The hosts managed to lead three attacks, which were in vain.

In the second half of the match the Turkmen footballers got confidence of success and took the lead from the 70th minute. The Turkmen team had the chances to score on the 77th and the 82nd minutes. Mamedali Karadanov took advantage of a sputter near the rivals’ gates and scored the goal that brought Turkmenistan the victory in the World Cup qualification match.

Turkmenistan and Cambodia will play the return match at the Olympic Stadium in Ashgabat on October 28.
