Cooperation : International co-operation – an important factor for global security and development
 
Ashgabat hosted the seminar focused on the role of the law in combating human trafficking at the national and international levels. The forum was organised under the aegis of the Government of Turkmenistan, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in assistance with the Government of Norway. The members of the Mejlis, the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of National Security, the State Border Protection Service and the State Agency for Foreign Citizens, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan and the IOM experts participated in the forum.

The training seminar was held within the framework of the relevant project launched in our country in June 2006. At present, Turkmenistan is drafting the legislative acts to combat human traffic. During the seminar the national experts got acquainted with the international conventions, the law models, the relevant experience of the CIS states and Western Europe.

The agenda included the reports of the international experts and leading specialists on the issues of improving and regulating the migration processes in the countries of Central Asia and Eastern Europe. The participants focused on the topical aspects and labour migration tendencies, the problems of illicit human trafficking as well as the relevant measures for protection, repatriation and social adaptation of victims of the actions of such kind and enhancement of border security.
