Cooperation : Turkmenistan-Russia: new steps towards economic co-operation
 
On December 4, the conference hall of the President Hotel hosted the Turkmen-Russian economic forum, which brought together over 50 companies and firms from 17 subjects of the Russian Federation. Within two days almost 200 top managers of the enterprises, businessmen and specialists will take part in the business meeting organised by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and Russia.

Greeting the participants of the forum the President of Turkmenistan noted that the forum would allow the specialists of both countries be familiar with the work of each other, the Russian businessmen would know about the potential and priorities of economic development of Turkmenistan and get acquainted with the work of ministries and departments. “Russia highly appreciates the mutually beneficial political and economic co-operation with friendly Turkmenistan,” RF Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov said.

The participants of the forum focused on the fact that agreements aimed at activating the business contacts and efficient using of the partner potential issued by the Presidents of two countries promoted dynamic expansion of mutually advantageous and multi-aspect co-operation entering a new stage of development. Besides the traditional fuel and energy sphere development of the transport infrastructure and communication system, industrial sector, construction industry and agriculture are among the prospect aspects of co-operation. The large-scale programs and projects implemented in Turkmenistan, creation of the transboundary transport tunnel North-South and establishment of the Avaza national tourist zone in particular, give vast opportunities for mutually beneficial co-operation.

During the plenary meetings the Russian guests reported on their opportunities and potential directions of co-operation. The Russian businessmen expressed the wish to establish partner relations with the Turkmen textile workers and ginned-cotton producers.

During the second half of the day the Turkmen specialists acquainted the guests from Russia with the terms and procedures of trade and economic operations, some aspects of the national legislation on taxation, banking and exchange transactions, customs regulations as well as the key aspects of development of the leading branches of national economy.

Tomorrow the Turkmen-Russian economic forum will continue its work.
