
On January 10 Turkmenistan celebrates World Hindi Day. The heads of the diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan, the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the national ministries and departments, the representatives of the Indian companies, which had been successfully operating on Turkmen market for many years, and numerous guests – the admirers of the unique culture of India were invited to the celebrations arranged by the Embassy of India to Turkmenistan on occasion of the remarkable date.
Expressing gratitude for their participating in the World Hindi Day celebrations Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Turkmenistan Mr. Mohammed Afzal emphasized that the national language Hindi as an integral part of the ancient and rich culture of the Indian nation had played a significant role in turning India into a great power and uniting its peoples.
The diplomat noted with satisfaction that Turkmenistan, where a broad field for humanitarian co-operation had been created in recent years, showed intense interest in Hindi. Each year the Embassy of India holds the weeks of Indian cinematography and art exhibitions to popularize Hindi and assists Turkmen students willing to study Hindi to enter the higher educational establishments within the framework of the exchange programmes promoting establishing spiritual relations, maintaining the close cultural dialogue between the two friendly nations.
Nowadays, Hindi, the official language of India, is one of the main literary languages. It is very popular all over the world. Over half a billion people worldwide speak this language and the government of India takes the measures to promote Hindi, which ranks among the most spread languages, worldwide.
A special exhibition organised on the remarkable occasion presented the books published in Hindi in different years, paintings, national jewelry and articles manufactured by skilful Indian craftsmen.
The World Hindi Day celebrations were arranged at the Grand Turkmen Hotel in Ashgabat. Upon concluding the opening ceremony the guests could taste the dishes of Indian cuisine and enjoy the wonderful world of Indian music and dances.
