President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov chaired a sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers to consider the issues of current policy of the Turkmen state.

Opening the sitting the Turkmen leader emphasized that the national development programmes and projects were aimed at improving the welfare and life quality of the people of Turkmenistan therefore to ensure strict control of prompt and high-quality putting newly-constructed building into operation, especially those constructed for social purpose. In this regard vice premiers reported on the work done.

Putting emphasis on Turkmenistan’s adherence to the policy of good neighbourliness, equal and mutually advantageous co-operation with the long-term and reliable partners, first of all, the Turkmen leader mentioned India, the relations with which were of special significance, such as these. That was illustrated by the start of work of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Indian commission for trade, economic, scientific and technological co-operation established to make interstate collaboration more effective and fruitful.

Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported that the parties had agreed on the agenda of the first meeting, which would be held in New Delhi on January 19-23.

On the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan, Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdieva visited Tbilisi, Georgia to attend the ceremony of inaugurating the newly-elected President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili.

Vice Premier M. Yazmuhammedova reported on the preparations for the meeting of the President with the high-ranking officials of the national cultural and mass media ministries and departments.

Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov emphasized that cultural and mass media workers, who were called upon to propagate the ideology of the epoch of new revival, serve as a powerful factor of moral and aesthetic development of the Turkmen nation, profoundly contributed to the success of the reforms and progressive undertakings implemented in the interests and for the benefit of the people of Turkmenistan. Focusing on some aspects of the activity to improve the work of Turkmen mass media Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov demanded that Turkmen journalists should provide the reliable and precise information on the events covered.

Other issues of the policy of the Turkmen state were considered during the sitting.
