The sports school of swimming under the State Committee for Tourism and Sports held the ceremony of opening the championships at the Olympic Water Sports Complex. The competitions are organized by the State Committee for Tourism and Sports on occasion of the first anniversary of Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov’s presidency and National Flag Day.

After the water sports complex was put into operation the number of those going in for swimming, girls in particular, considerably increased last year. The butterfly competitions became very popular among local sportsmen.

Participation of 100 young swimmers in the championships vividly proves that. The participants competed in two age categories - under 14 and under 16 age categories.

The winners will be included into the junior team of Turkmenistan to represent our country at various international competitions including the 2010 Junior Olympic Games.
