On the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdieva received the letter of credentials from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland Alain Guidetti.
On behalf of the Turkmen leader the head of the Turkmen Parliament congratulated the honorary guest on starting the diplomatic mission to Turkmenistan and wished success in strengthening the ties of friendship and fruitful co-operation between the two countries. Mr. Alain Guidetti addressed the best wished to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the people of Turkmenistan on behalf of the Swiss Government emphasizing that he considered it an honour to represent Switzerland in independent neutral Turkmenistan.
The diplomat was briefed on the key trends, the priority goals and tasks of the large-scale reforms implemented in the country on the initiative and under the leadership of the nationwide leader. In this regard emphasis was put on the social aspect of the national development strategy aimed at improving the living standards and the welfare of the people of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting the Speaker of the Mejlis briefed on the activities of the Turkmen Parliament focused on drafting the laws called upon to ensure the country’s sustainable advance along the way of reforms.
Mr. Alain Guidetti emphasized that the reforms implemented in Turkmenistan at the new stage of the Turkmen modern history were of particular interest to Switzerland. The diplomat noted that the reforms implemented by the Turkmen Government in the social and economic and humanitarian spheres and Turkmenistan’s efforts on the world arena were in the focus of attention of the international community and of particular significance for further progressive development of the state and society.
Discussing the achievements and prospects of bilateral co-operation the interlocutors stated the countries’ endeavours to intensify and maintain it in mutual interests. 29 Swiss firms and companies including the large producers of textile equipment and chemical products had partnered with Turkmenistan since the diplomatic relations were established. The interlocutors were unanimous that Turkmenistan and Switzerland had the profound potential of co-operation to be implemented for the benefit of the two friendly peoples.
Thanking for the heartfelt welcome the Ambassador assured that he would spare no effort to promote successful development of the intergovernmental dialogue.

The Swiss diplomat visited Gypjak and laid flowers to the mausoleum of the first President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov, visited the landmarks of Ashgabat and suburbs.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The diplomat will hold the meetings and talks at the national ministries and departments of Turkmenistan.
