Culture & Heritage : The books of a Turkmen soul

Nowadays, one can find a volume of Magtymguly’s poetry at every home in Turkmenistan. Many families keep these books as a cherished object handing them down from generation to generation so that the great poet’s fame again and again revives in the colourful images opening the whole world, which the dreams and hopes, the soul of each Turkmen lives in. A special exposition arranged by the Central Scientific Library of the Supreme Council for Science and Technology under President of Turkmenistan presents the rarities and the recent publications of Magtymguly’s poetical heritage as well as the works dedicated to Fragi’s creative activity to the people and guests of Ashgabat.

Every display looks as if a carpet with the books as the patterns. The ornaments of the Arabic ligature, the graphics of the poetical collections published a century ago compete with the colourful illustrations of the books published at the modern printing plants. Hundreds of the publications! And each is perfectly made that shows - print workers take special care of such publications. It was so at the beginning of the last century when in 1907 the oldest poetical collection presented at the exposition was published in the region. The tradition is maintained nowadays that is evidenced by the recent collection Magtymguly published by in Turkmenistan in 2008.

The poems created by the prominent Turkmen classical poet were republished many times in huge circulation not only in our country. The opened the outlook and philosophy of the Turkmen nation – one of the ancient nations, who profoundly contributed to development of human civilization, to the world.
