On the instruction of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Speaker of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan A. Nurberdieva received the credential letters of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
On behalf of the Turkmen leader the head of the Turkmen Parliament congratulated the guest on appointment to the high diplomatic post and wishes success in strengthening the ties of friendship and co-operation between Turkmenistan and DPRK.
Thanking for the heartfelt wishes the diplomat said that he considered it great honour to represent his country in the state, whose progressive policy and peacemaking initiatives had won the profound international prestige. Putting emphasis on the significance of establishing the close bilateral contacts the Korean diplomat noted that in spite of geographical remoteness of the two countries the peoples of Turkmenistan and the DPRK were bound with the friendly relations that would lay the firm foundation for further development of intergovernmental co-operation.
The key trends of the social and economic reforms implemented in Turkmenistan were presented during the meeting. Emphasis was put on the science and education reforms as a crucial condition for national sustainable development, successful Turkmenistan’s integration into the global economic and information system.
The diplomat was briefed on the activity of the Turkmen Parliament. Discussing the existing potential of bilateral partnership the sides admitted the necessity of intensifying the intergovernmental contacts, in particular the cultural dialogue fostering the ties of traditional friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations. The sides focused on particular importance of establishing the inter-parliamentary ties.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Korean diplomat visited the family mausoleum in Gypjak to commemorate the first President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Niyazov.
