The cultural and sports centre built in the Turkmen capital at the intersection of the busy city streets 1957 and 1931 (Oguz Khan St and Alty Karliev St) opened its doors for the first visitors.
The gymnasts and fencers, football and basketball players, boxers, practitioners of martial arts and national wrestling – goresh presented a big sports performance on the festive occasion. The renowned Turkmen athletes– the winners of the prestigious international competitions and sports veterans marched past numerous participants and guests of the ceremony. The best artistic groups of Ashgabat presented a wonderful gift – inflammatory dances and songs to the participants of the festivities.
Greeting those present the high-ranking officials of the Ashgabat Khyakimlik and the State Committee for Tourism and Sport congratulated the people of Ashgabat on the opening of the new cultural and sports centre where everyone willing could make good use of his spare time and join the physical training and health promotion movement rapidly developed in the country. Those speaking at the ceremony noted that development of massive physical culture and sport, wide propagation of the healthy lifestyle among youth, first of all, were the priorities of the national policy. To achieve these goals the stadiums, sports and health-improving facilities were under construction throughout the country on the initiative of the Turkmen leader. In the nearest future the Olympic village meeting the international standards would be built in Ashgabat.
The sports hall constructed by the subdivisions of the Ministry of Construction of Turkmenistan at the request of the Ashgabat Khaykimlik houses the 620-seat gymnasium with the volleyball, basketball and mini football ground, gym, rooms for coachers and instructors, massage room, sauna with the swimming pool and shower cabins, medical room and cafeteria. There are the summer sports ground and autonomous boiler room in the adjacent territory. Upon concluding the opening ceremony the mini football teams held the matches.
