Science & Education : Turkmen youth’s ‘bronze’ victories

Turkmen youth’s ‘bronze’ victoriesJuly is on the calendar. Schoolchildren are enjoying the summer holidays. One would think that they devote free time to untroubled recreation putting aside their textbooks for this time of year. Though during the holidays the senior schoolchildren – smart in various school disciplines take active part in the Olympic marathon of young intellectuals.

Some days ago the 19th International Biology Olympiad, which brought together 220 schoolchildren from 55 countries worldwide including Turkmenistan, was held in the Indian city of Mumbai from July 13 to 20.

The good knowledge of the favourite discipline, persistence and grit and to some extent experience of successful performance at the national school Olympiads helped our young compatriots – tenth formers Rovshen Akmammedov and Annageldi Tayirov to represent our country in a worthy manner at the international intellectual competitions. Both young biologists won the bronze medals.

Last week four young intellectuals from Turkmenistan – Azat Meredov, Merdan Artykov, Kakamurat Tushiev and Nazar Emirov took part in the 49th International Mathematical Olympiad in the capital of Spain – Madrid. The Turkmen schoolchildren won the bronze medals of the intellectual contest, which brought together 535 young mathematicians from 97 countries worldwide.
