Architectural masterpiece in carpet interpretationBirth of a carpet – is an event always joyful and symbolic crowning the carpet makers’ long and laborious labour. A carpet grew knot by knot, row by row like a picturesque canvas acquiring its appearance with every new touch to rise before our eyes. As soon as a carpet is taken off the loom – it has already belonged to the people together with a part of its creators’ souls. As a wonderful song, well-built house or carefully grown garden…

Such an event took place at the Museum of Turkmen Carpet in Ashgabat. The first carpet initiating a new series of the pictorial canvases depicting the ancient and modern landmarks of Turkmenistan was taken off the loom. These carpets will replenish the exposition of the new building of the Museum of Turkmen Carpet under construction.

The amazing and unique architectural monument of Kunya Urgench and Central Asia – world-renowned Turabek Khanum Mausoleum inscribed on the World Heritage List is depicted on the first carpet.

The creators of this pictorial carpet (2,10 õ 1,85 m in size and with total area of 3,88 m) is young. This is the authors of the design are Maya Berdieva and Abdulla Durdiev and the carpet makers Annagul Bekmuradova, Yazgul Babaeva, Tyazegul Mammetnazarova. Over 200 colour tints convey admirable beauty of the Turabek Khanum Mausoleum.

Even all that has remained from the works create by skilful architects, unsurpassed bricklayers, decorators, ceramic designers amazes with adorable beauty and brilliant technique. The carpet dedication to this masterpiece is like a tribute to the ancestors’ creative talent and labour and embodies careful treatment of the national history, its monuments – the pride of the nation. At the same time, it symbolizes succession of the best artistic traditions of the nation, the traditions regarding true art as craftsmanship. For that in the East art has been always associated with craftsmanship that elevates any handicraft. An example is Turkmen carpet weaving – an indigenously national handicraft recognized worldwide as the art of paramount artistic value and the traditions of unexceptionable quality.
