The ceremony of welcoming the Turkmen team and hoisting the Turkmen national flag was held in the capital of the People’s Republic of China on the Flagpole Alley in the international zone of the Olympic Village.

The Mayor of the Olympic Village greeted the envoys of Turkmenistan, who had the honour of representing our Motherland at the global sporting event, and wished the sportsmen from Turkmenistan the great success and new achievements.

Henceforth, the green banner of the country will be streaming in the skies of the Chinese capital until the closing ceremony. The Turkmen sportsmen presented the Mayor the souvenirs, in particular a hand-made Turkmen carpet with the 2008 Olympic emblem.

Over a thousand of the participants including the representatives of the Olympic organizing committee and journalists from China and other countries took part in the ceremony.

The ceremony of sending the Turkmen sportsmen off to the XXIX Summer Olympic Games was held on July 28. Addressing the worlds of encouragement to the sportsmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that he believed that they would be able to demonstrate the achievements of the national sport and uphold the sports honour of the country that regarded development of sport and propagation of the healthy lifestyle as the state’s priority tasks to the world.
