During the recent sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that in the nearest future Abadan, the satellite town of the Turkmen capital, would form a part of the rapidly developing megalopolis. Today, the town has turned into a large construction site.

The large scale of the forthcoming changes can be judged by the 2008-2012 Conception of Social and Economic Development of the Ahal Velayat approved by the special Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan. This year the buildings of the 600-seat school supplied with multimedia and sports equipment as well as 150-seat kindergarten are to be constructed in Abadan by Turkish Ichkale In?aat Limited Shirkety. The sports complex including a 10,000-seat stadium and hotel for 50 visitors will spring up there.
Paramount importance is attached to housing construction. 24 apartment houses will be constructed on mortgage lending. 8 apartment houses will have been constructed by the end of 2008. In accordance with the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan on construction of 35 four-storey 40-apartment houses and neighborhood improvement in Ashgabat and Abadan in the Ahal Velayat 7 houses will be constructed in Abadan next year.

Along with the construction works the town mains are improved. Asphalt road covering, road curbs and lampposts are replaced, the main streets are reconstructed. Guneshli Street with the centre mall is one of the longest in the Abadan. This double-sided road and Kopetdag Street will connect the city center with Ashgabat-Geoktepe highway.

The elements of monumental art started to appear in Abadan’s architectural ensemble. The mosaic panels on the facades and the interior of the administrative buildings, monuments and landscape architecture forming the architectural and sculptural complexes became an integral part of the town’s look. A pearl in Ashgabat’s gold necklace beautifies with every passing year. In the nearest future it will turn into a peculiar housing estate of Ashgabat.
