On the invitation of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein paid an official to Turkmenistan on August 24, 2008.
During the visit the leaders of the two countries held the talks focused on the Turkmen-Jordanian relations, further development of these relations in the economic, social and cultural spheres. The sides discussed the regional and international issues of mutual interest. Upon concluding the talks the leaders of the two countries signed the Joint Communiqué. The document states that the leaders of Turkmenistan and Jordan confirmed the importance of economic co-operation and expressed the willingness to intensify efforts to enhance the bilateral relations in such fields as energy sector, transport and communication, telecommunication, construction materials and textile industries, agriculture, education, science and health care.
The leaders of the two countries focused on the importance of enhancing humanitarian co-operation as a basic means of bringing the peoples closer, deepening mutual understanding, mutually enriching cultures, maintaining friendship between the nations and agreed to encourage the exchange of cultural delegations and to expand co-operation in tourism, sport and research activities.
The sides confirmed that terrorism and transnational crime posed serious threat to global peace and security and noted that both countries stood ready for co-operation to respond to these challenges and expressed the intention to strengthen the role of the United Nations in tackling the global issues of peace and security, sustainable development worldwide.
Emphasis was put on the mutual endeavours of Turkmenistan and Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to create the climate of mutual confidence and understanding and to maintain stability at the regional and international levels as well as the necessity to settle international conflicts by the peaceful, diplomatic means and methods.
The sides demonstrated the similar views on some aspects of regional and global policies and expressed the willingness to hold consultations on the current issues of international affairs.
To encourage legal co-operation between the countries the sides confirmed the necessity of preparing the agreements on trade and economic co-operation, co-operation in the fields of transport education, science, health care and culture and the memorandum of understanding between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to be signed during the next top level talks.
To further enhance and maintain the friendly relations and co-operation between Turkmenistan and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan the heads of both states expressed interest in opening the embassy of the Turkmenistan in Jordan and the embassy of Jordan in Turkmenistan.
Upon concluding the visit His Majesty Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein expressed sincere gratitude to His Excellency Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the heartfelt welcome and hospitality and invited the Turkmen President to visit the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The invitation was accepted with gratitude. The dates of the visit will adjusted through the diplomatic channels.
