
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Turkmenistan Viktor Maiko.
Thanking for the opportunity of a personal meeting the diplomat conveyed the heartfelt greetings on behalf of President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko who reaffirmed Ukraine’s intention to maintain the historically established traditions of friendship and mutual understanding. Taking an opportunity the guest congratulated the Turkmen leader on the holy month of Oraza and expressed wishes of peace, kindness and wellbeing to the people of Turkmenistan.
The sides exchanged views on the prospects of co-operation in the key fields including fuel and energy sector. Humanitarian co-operation, particularly in the spheres of education, science and culture was mentioned as a priority field of mutual interest.

Expressing satisfaction at the current state of Turkmen-Ukrainian co-operation the President and his guest quite positively evaluated the opportunities of further enhancing and expanding partnership based on centuries-old cultural and economic ties between two friendly peoples. Thanking for inviting the Ukrainian partners to collaborate in the projects implemented in Turkmenistan, the Avaza National Project in particular, the diplomat assured that Ukraine would spare no effort to prove the reputation of a dependable partner.
V. Maiko said that successfully implementing the national strategy of social and economic reforms Turkmenistan remained Ukraine’s strategic partner and addressed the best wishes to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on occasion of the coming 17th anniversary of Turkmenistan independence that marked a new stage of the grandiose changes initiated in the country.
The Ukrainian plenipotentiary representative thanked the Turkmen leader for the opportunity to discuss the topical issues of the bilateral relations during the personal meeting and expressed belief that traditional intergovernmental co-operation would be successfully furthered.
