Sport & Tourism : Turkmen weightlifter – among seven best athletes of the world
 
39-year-old Master of Sport from Mary Ovezgeldy Orjiev ranked among seven best weighlifters in the under 82,5 kg category of the XIII Paralympics in Beijing. Once each four years the main sport event of the planet brings together disabled sportsmen from all over the world.

The record number of the sportsmen - over 4,000 athletes from 148 countries and region competed in 20 tournaments in the Beijing XIII Paralympics

Turkmenistan was represented by 3 athletes. Master of Sport Valentina Simakova (under 75 kg) and Mayagozel Pekieva (under 56 kg) from Ashgabat ranked the sixth and seventh respectively. Ovezgeldy Orjiev competed with the weightlifters from 13 countries for the medals and achieved the high result.

In the first attempt in the bench press O. Orjiev lifted 180 kg. In the second attempt – 190 kg. In the third attempt our sportsman failed to lift 195 kg. His result was as higher as 17.5 kg than that gained by Janne Piipponen from Finland who ranked the eighth and lower that that gained by 36-year-old Ammar Sheh Ahmad from Syria.

The Chinese athletes showed the best team score. They won 211 medals in the XIII Paralympics (89 gold, 70 silver and 52 bronze medals). The team of Great Britain ranked the second with 102 medals (42- 29 - 31). The team of the United States ranked the third with 99 medals (36 - 35 - 28). Out of 148 participating countries 76 teams won the medals, of them 52 are the gold medals.

London will host the XIV Paralympics in 2012.
