Science & Education : Turkmenistan-EU: enhancing education co-operation

The two-day educational seminar organized by the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the administration of the Institute under a project of the TEMPUS-TACIS EU Programme was held at D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The forum brought together the teachers and students of the higher educational establishments of Turkmenistan and the old friends and partners of D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages from the Heriot-Watt University (Scotland), Granada University (Spain) and Svendborg Gymnasium (Denmark).

D. Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages has been collaborating with the universities in Scotland and Spain for over 10 years in the framework of various projects of the TEMPUS-TACIS Educational Programme. The European partners arrived to Ashgabat to conduct the seminars, provide the consultations on advanced methods of teaching the English, German, French, Spanish languages and to participate in the scientific conferences. Over the period the teachers of D. Azadi Institute attended the courses at the Heriot-Watt and Granada Universities. The simultaneous translation room and translation center were opened at the Institute of World Languages. Nowadays, the Institute of World Languages collaborates with the European partners under the new project Online Education and Further Improvement of Training. Expanding the dialogue with the leading training centers worldwide promotes training highly qualified translators for various sectors of the national economy and eventually contributes to fulfilling the tasks set by President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov to the national education system.

The seminar participants presented the reports on professional training of the foreign language teachers of the higher educational establishments, shared their experiences in this field and discussed the opportunities of applying the multimedia technologies and advanced foreign languages teaching methods. The seminar participants attended the interactive classes in English, German, French and Spanish delivered by the teachers of the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages that evidenced the effectiveness of these technologies.

The outcomes of the Project Professional Training of English Language Teachers for Special Purposes under the TEMPUS-TACIS Programme were reported on during the seminar. Within the framework of the project the teachers and students of D. Azadi Institute compiled the electronic Turkmen-Russian-English glossary for oil and gas and transport workers and the teaching aid for teachers of the technology institutes of Turkmenistan.

The new multimedia auditorium designed within the framework of the EU Project was presented on the second day of the seminar.
