President of Turkmenistan Congratulates Fellow Citizens with Resolution Declaring 3 June as World Bicycle Day
As you know, in Turkmenistan we currently focus on development of physical education and sports. Extensive works are carried out to improve public health; increase life expectancy; create conditions for physical training and practicing sports; raise our country’s international profile as a sports nation.

Having announced the agenda, the Head of the State gave floor to Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister R. Meredov who informed on the good news from the Headquarter of the United Nations Organizations in New York. Two Resolutions “The World Bicycle Day” and “Cooperation between the United Nations Organizations and International Fund for Saving of Aral Sea”, which drafts were elaborated by the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, have been unanimously adopted at the 82nd meeting of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on April 12.
In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan, which is located on important intersection of regional and continental transport routes, tries to realize the existing potential for common sake making considerable contribution to the formation of modern multimodal transit, transport and logistic infrastructure and to the restoration of the Silk Road in new merit. Our country would continue providing comprehensive support the consolidation and expansion of beneficial international partnership in this strategic sector, the Head of the State said, having instructed to provide high organizational level of the above-mentioned events.
During the session of the Government on April 13, Vice-premier, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov informed on the appointment of the composition of Organizational Committee and elaboration of preliminary Programme of these events.
By the Resolution on declaration of June 3 as the World Bicycle Day, the United Nations welcomed and support the work carried out in Turkmenistan for the development of sport and physical training and health-improving movement, for the formation of ecological culture of the society and for cooperation in this sphere between the states and the nations.

The document instructs the relevant ministries and sectoral agencies to assist the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs in implementing measures outlined in the above-mentioned program and plan.
