President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attends the opening ceremony of a new terminal of the Ashgabat International Airport

President of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the opening ceremony of the passenger terminal-2 of the new complex of the Ashgabat International Airport.

The Turkish construction company Polimeks is to build the new complex of the Ashgabat International Airport with the capacity of 1,600 passengers per hour in Ashgabat at the request of Turkmenhowayollary State National Service. The construction project is being implemented in two phases. The passenger terminal-2, temporary VIP terminal, artificial runway, aircraft aprons, taxiways, administrative building of Turkmenhowayollary State National Service and other buildings and facilities are to be built to ensure the high quality of passenger services while the main passenger terminal is being built on the place of the old one.

... The passenger terminal-2 of the Ashgabat International Airport was decorated festively for the opening ceremony. The Chairperson of the Mejlis, the cabinet ministers, the heads of the military and law enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, the khyakims of Ashgabat and the regions, the heads of diplomatic representations and missions accredited in Turkmenistan, the elders, media representatives and airport specialists greeted the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in the air harbour of the Turkmen capital.

Greeting the ceremony participants, the President congratulated those present on the opening of the passenger terminal-2 of the Ashgabat International Airport, noting that promoting the open door policy and wide international cooperation, Turkmenistan attached great importance to enhancing trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian relations.

The Turkmen leader headed to the entrance of the terminal of international flights. The President and cut the ribbon to the applause of those present and entered the building where specialists of Turkmenhowayollary State National Service told the Turkmen leader about the equipment of the terminal and the services to be rendered to passengers.

Then the President headed to the apron and the CIP terminal. An airport specialist told the Turkmen leader in detail about the equipment of the terminal and the conditions created for passengers. The Turkmen leader focused with satisfaction on comfortable conditions created for passengers in the CIP terminal.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the terminal of domestic flights. An airport specialist told the Turkmen leader in detail about the functional capabilities and technical features of the terminal.

All the halls in the terminal have information displays and special signs, which significantly simplifies the movement of passengers inside the airport building. The aprons for 19 aircrafts are built in an area of 167,000 square metres. Thus, the most favourable conditions for passengers arriving and departing on international and domestic flights are created in the terminal.

Before leaving the terminal building, the Turkmen leader wrote an entry to the Book of Guests of Honour.

Then the Turkmen leader headed to the VIP terminal where he could see the conditions created to receive distinguished guests and conduct meetings and conferences.

In the VIP terminal building, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the top managers of Boeing, Vice President of Sales in the Middle East, Central and South Asia Martin Bentrott and Regional Director for Sales for Europe and Central Asia Serdar Gurza, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the opening ceremony of the new terminal and transfer a new aircraft to Turkmenhowayollary State National Service.

Together with the ceremony participants, the Turkmen leader and his guests witnessed a landmark event – a Boeing 777-200 LR, the first of two airliners built at the request of the Turkmen side, landed at the Ashgabat International Airport. Following the national tradition, the representatives of the older generation performed the blessing ritual.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guests came on board of the Boeing 777-200 LR that had just landed in Ashgabat. The Turkmen leader could see the design and equipment of the cabin of the custom-made airliner.

In conclusion, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized once again the importance of the new international airport as a critical element in developing transregional transit transport system and wished those present every success. Then the President of Turkmenistan left the ceremony venue.
