Participation in the World Thai Boxing Championship in Minsk to be important phase of training of our fighters for V Asian Games

Best Asian martial arts fighters will come to Ashgabat in September of this year. Muai Thai fights undoubtedly will be one of the most spectacular and dynamic. This martial art, also known as Thai boxing, has large number of fans and is recognized in our country.

2014 was the year of successful début of Turkmen fighters – women team won the bronze at Asian Beach Games in Bangkok (Thailand). In the same year, Turkmen sportsmen won four gold medals at the World’s Martial Arts Games in Istanbul (Turkey). Turkmenistan Thai Boxing Federation was founded in December 2014 and at present time, it is accredited by International Amateur Thai Boxing Federation. Students World Cup in Bangkok in 2015, where our team won the bronze, was another serious exam for our sportsmen. In the same year, our team was invited to participate in Europe Open Cup in Antalya (Turkey) where Turkmen team won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals. In may 2016, our boxers participated in World Tournament in Jönköping (Sweden) where two representatives of national team won two silver medals in tough battle. It was a serious bid for leading positions in this sport. In November 2016, the World Cup was held in Kazan (Russia) where our Thai boxers won 5 silver and 5 bronze medals.

National men and women teams will compete for the prizes at2017 Asian Games. Men will fight in 54, 57, 60, 63.5, 67, 71, 75, 81 and 86 kg weight categories while women only in four – 54, 57, 60 and 63.5 kg. Set of medals comprised of gold, silver and two bronze medals will be competed in the fights of each category.

At present time, the training is aimed at the main target – to develop maximally fighting skills and to achieve the peak of psychological and physical capabilities of each members of national team.

The Muai Thai position itself as a tough martial art. Hence, its sport version, taking into account high probability of injuries, includes using of mandatory equipment elements not only the gloves but also helmets, elbow and leg pads. This is another reason for thorough training of tactical and technical operations at this stage.

Daily training of our boxers includes work in pairs bringing simple but effective combinations of knock out strikes to reflex level. Under preparation to Asian Games, our national team will go for several training camps in Thailand, which is the birthplace of this martial art. In May, 2017, they will have serious exam at the World Tournament in Thailand, which will be the main stage of training for the Games.
