The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan organizers a briefing on the Concept of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Energy Charter

The International Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held the briefing on the concept of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Energy Charter in 2017. The representatives of international news agencies and local mass media as well as students of the International Journalism Department of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan were invited to attend the meeting.

During the meeting, the 2017 Plan of events to be held in the country and abroad within the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship was presented to journalists. Speaking during the meeting, the representatives of the Turkmenneft State Concern and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan told about the process of development of international cooperation of Turkmenistan in the fuel and energy sector as well as about important international initiatives put forward by the President of Turkmenistan.

It was noted that the aim of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Energy Charter was to intensify cooperation to guarantee energy security as an integral factor of sustainable development. Within the framework of the chairmanship in the Energy Charter, Turkmenistan has specified the priority areas for cooperation. Among them are diversification of energy resources supply routes, expansion of their geography and involvement of more countries, interested in international energy processes.

Another area is ecological aspect that stipulates the priority significance of the renewable energy resources. In this regard, Turkmenistan plans to encourage the member-states to consider the wide spectrum of issues on the development of high-technology industries as well as ‘alternative green energy’ as an important factor of functioning of the economic infrastructure.

Particular attention is paid to the enhancement of safety of energy resources supply routes. In this regard, Turkmenistan is planning to intensify the work on drafting the multisided Framework agreement on the transit of energy resources.

The outcomes and recommendations of member-states, international structures, businessmen and experts will be presented in the final document during the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference.

The schedule of events to be held within the framework of the chair was presented during the briefing. Thus, Ashgabat will host the forum of the Energy Charter “Towards the multisided Framework agreement on the transit of energy resources” on May 30-31, the International Energy Media Forum – on May 31 and the 28th session of the Energy Charter Conference – on November 28-29.
