Swimmer Merdan Atayev wins silver medal and sets national record at IV Islamic Games

The sportsman became the vice-winner in backstroke 50 meters race, which he covered in 25.82 seconds. It brought not only the medal to the foster of Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan Sergey Epifanov but also became new national record that exceeds the previous one for 0.06 seconds, set by the same guy in 2016 Asian Championship in Tokyo (Japan).

Merdan set another record on the day before, having covered 100 meters backstroke for 55.44 seconds what gave him another silver prize. In this race, our compatriot managed to imprive his previous result on 0.5 seconds. Such growing perspective cannot help pleasing as M. Atayev will have to compete in national team at V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games where he plans to improve his results.

Totally, our team has one gold, three silver and two bronze medals what places Turkmenistan national team at 11th position in total count among 57 participating countries.
