President of Turkmenistan receives Advisor to President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov has received Senior Adviser to the President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on Infrastructure and Technology Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi.

During the meeting, the parties pointed out a fruitful character of the Seventh Regional Economic Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII) (held at ministerial level in Ashgabat) that had designated new areas for combined efforts to render considerable assistance to Afghanistan’s economic development, and restore its social sphere. The forum had also culminated in the adoption of important documents aimed to facilitate the country’s successful integration into regional and international infrastructure projects.

In this context, the representative of Afghanistan highlighted the enormous significance and importance to the region’s countries of the ongoing massive construction projects, such as the transnational Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway, and power lines to carry electricity to Afghanistan.

President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov noted with satisfaction the progress achieved in promoting Turkmen-Afghan trade-economic relations, having acknowledged the ample possibilities for their further expansion.

A special topic of discussion was humanitarian cooperation that includes construction of social facilities – healthcare and educational institutions in the neighboring country, provision of education to Afghan students at Turkmenistan’s higher education institutions, regular humanitarian aid, and other assistance. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi expressed his deep gratitude to the head of state and the entire Turkmen nation for the brotherly solidary and active support for the neighboring country’s stable development.

Concluding the meeting, the Turkmen leader and his guest expressed confidence that the Turkmen-Afghan relations would continue to strengthen and expand successfully on the principles of friendship, neighborliness, and mutual goodwill.
