Turkmenistan widely and solemnly celebrate the agricultural festival – Galla bairamy.

The Turkmen people, who founded one of the earliest farming civilizations in the world as illustrated by numerous archaeological finds, learnt to cultivate fertile lands in ancient times. They know from their centuries-old experience how much effort should be put forth to grow full-fledged golden ears of wheat. From ancient times our people have regarded bread as a spiritual value – it was a measure of the wellbeing and a symbol of the wealth, prosperity and welfare of our nation. Today, due to the large-scale changes taken place in the agro-industrial complex of the country on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, grain industry plays a special role in the structure of agricultural production, laying the groundwork to ensure an abundance of food products in the country.

That’s why Galla bairamy is widely and solemnly celebrated throughout the country – in velayats and etraps, cities and villages. The celebrations in honour of Turkmen grain growers, who have gained the outstanding acheivements in this year’s harvesting campaign, are arranged in the country on this day. Within the framework of the large-scale festive programme the ceremonies of awarding the heroes of the grain growing campaign, meetings, contests, concerts, sports and equestrian contests, art exhibitions and other cultural events took place in all regions of the country. The epicentre of the festive celebrations was our white-marble capital – beautiful Ashgabat.

A scientific and practical conference on development of agriculture was organized at the Turkmen agricultural university.

In the evening, the festivities continued in the Park of Independence. Cabinet Ministers, heads of Mejlis, ministries and departments, regions of the country, the elders, and representatives of public organizations, diplomatic representations and missions accredited to Turkmenistan, journalists, students as well as local citizens and guests to the Turkmen capital attended the festivities. On behalf of the workers of the agro-industrial complex, Ahalteke horse Bereketli was presented to the President of Turkmenistan. A large-scale exposition of grain-growing industry was arranged there.

The main heroes of the festive celebrations were Turkmen grain growers who had achieved outstanding success in their noble profession.

National melodies and songs created a festive atmosphere. Best musical, folklore, choreographic groups from Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary Velayats demonstrated their talents near festively decorated pavilions – modern Turkmen yurtas.

The guests to the festivities were treated with traditional Turkmen food.

The achievements of the grain-growing complex of the country were presented at the festively decorated area under the open sky.

The official part of the holiday continued in the “Ashgabat” Musical Centre. The ceremony of awarding of the best grain growers, machine and combine operators took place there. Valuable presents were awarded to the heroes of the 2013 harvesting campaign on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan.

A big concert of masters of culture and art of Turkmenistan was dedicated to the selfless labour of grain growers. Festive concerts and various cultural and sports events took place in all cities and settlements of Turkmenistan on occasion of Galla bairamy.
