Mirziyoyev and Zarif discuss the development of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor

The Government of Uzbekistan notes the importance of use of Iranian ports for development of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor. Russian News Agency informs about this with reference to the media service of the President of Uzbekistan. According to the service, on Monday, Shavkat Mirziyoyev has received Foreign Minister of Iran Muhammad Javad Zarif who arrived in Tashkent on working visit. The sides have discussed current condition and future development of bilateral relations.

“The importance of intensification of cooperation in transport and communication sphere, including efficient use of Iranian seaports and development of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor has been noted at the meeting”, - the release on the outcomes of the meeting says.

 The sides have also discussed current aspects of international and regional agenda, which present mutual interest including provision of regional security and promotion of peaceful process in Afghanistan, - the message says.

The agreement on establishment of Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor has entered into force on April 23, 2016. The part of transport and transit route will run by railroad connecting Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran while another part by sea from Iranian ports of Bandar Abbas and Chahbahar to Omani ports.
