Turkmenistan is a major producer and exporter of electricity

At an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held on Friday, it was noted that since the beginning of the year, the growth rate of electricity production in the country amounted to 111.6 percent, and its export - 134.5 percent. The plan was fulfilled by 113.3 and 178.1 percent, respectively. Such a rapid growth of the electric power industry of Turkmenistan and its export potential is the result of a purposeful policy implemented in recent years. Large investments are made in the industry, large-scale projects are being implemented together with the technologically developed countries of the world, innovative, environmentally friendly technologies are used at new power facilities.

The aggregate power of the country's energy system was multiplied by such unique objects as the combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts, which has no analogues in the region, built on the territory of the Mary state power plant and doubled the total capacity of the hydroelectric power station. In the near future, it is planned to transfer to a mixed mode, using steam and gas turbines, power plants in Akhal and Dashoguz velayats.

On the eve of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence, a new gas turbine power plant was put into operation in the Chardzhev etrap on the territory of the existing Lebap state power plant, built with the participation of the Japanese companies Sumitomo Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems and the Turkish Rönesans Holding. With its commissioning, the capacity of the country's energy system increased by another 432 megawatts, which increased the reliability of energy supply to domestic consumers and allowed to increase the volume of electricity supplies to neighboring countries of Central Asia.

Today Turkmenistan is the largest exporter of electricity in the region. For many years the country has been supplying electricity at preferential prices to Afghanistan, half of the country's energy consumption comes from imports from Central Asia. In accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, since August this year, our country has begun supplying electricity to Kyrgyzstan to meet the needs of the industry and population of this country during the peak autumn-winter period. As is known, an agreement on this was reached during the talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Sadyr Japarov during the official visit of the Kyrgyz leader to Ashgabat.

The supply of electricity from Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan is carried out in accordance with the agreement dated November 29, 2019 between the companies "Turkmenenergo" and "National Electric Grids of Uzbekistan" and additional agreements concluded to it. On the basis of the next supplementary agreement between these two partners, the supply of Turkmen electricity to the neighboring country will be carried out from January to December 2022.
