In the capital of Turkmenistan began its work the 14th Central Asian Media Conference "From traditional to online media: Best Practices and Prospects" which is carried out in accordance with the Decree of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and in collaboration with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

To participate in the meeting the officials, public representatives and academics, and journalists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, as well as international and regional experts came to our country.

The Turkmen side in the Central Asian Media Conference was attended by deputies of the Mejlis, heads and senior staff of ministries and departments, the national media, teachers and students in higher education. Among the invited guests of the forum were the head of the diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan as well as the representatives of foreign news agencies.

On the agenda of the forum made to discuss the prospects of the transition from traditional to online media trends in digital media, including international standards in the field of media regulation.

Speaking at the opening ceremony Acting Head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat Mr. Ivo Petrov expressed his deep gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the promotion of a high level of organization of the conference noting the productive partnership between our country and the OSCE in which the asset is a great positive experience working together on a number of key areas including through the development of the media.

In turn the OSCE representative on media freedom Ms. Dunja Mijatovic emphasized that the items on the agenda of the Ashgabat meeting are relevant not only for Central Asia, but for all countries in the world.

During the forum heard reports on trends in the development of digital media, the legal regulation of the Internet, Internet TV, IP-TV, the international standards in this area. International experts were also made with the thematic reports of the transition from traditional to social media and other topics. The first day of the conference was also given a master class "Regulatory Issues of online and social media" prepared by the well-known international consulting company «Albany Associates».
