Ashgabat is hosting the two-day International Conference entitled “Integrating Global Energy Markets – Providing Energy Security”. The organizers of the forum are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan.
The major aim of the high-level energy forum is to promote further collaboration on energy security issues between the participating states of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
A global scale of energy challenges necessitates building the universal system to effectively manage energy balance for the benefit of mankind. The important initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from the rostrum of the United Nations are aimed at adequately responding to these challenges. These issues include reliable and stable transit of energy to world markets – the proposals of the Turkmen state to tackle these issues have been highly evaluated and received support from the international community that was secured in the Resolution of the UN General Assembly adopted in 2008.
Speaking before the sixty-sixth session of the UN General Assembly, the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed that our country intended to actively contribute to building global energy architecture and developing specific measures in this sphere. In this regard the Turkmen leader stated that Turkmenistan considered it appropriate to develop a new mechanism – the interregional energy dialogue under the aegis of the UN.
The global energy policy issues are put on the agenda of high-level international meetings where emphasis is put on the need to concert efforts to elaborate viable models and realistic plans based on energy interdependence and meet the interests and needs of all nations of the world.
The Ashgabat conference, which has brought together participants representing world’s leading oil and gas companies, international organisations and political and diplomatic circles of OSCE participating states, is an opportunity to present a current panorama and outline the development of the energy sector, Turkmenistan’s role and place in this strategic sphere, understand the tasks of achieving energy security set today to the international community and identify the options for partnerships.
The forum was taking place in the office building of the oil and gas industry departments. Its agenda focuses on the issues regarding the efficiency of the global energy system, collaboration between energy producers, transit-countries and consumers, development of fuel and energy infrastructure of Turkmenistan, international cooperation on energy processing, exchange of advanced technologies, wide collaboration in the investment sector, energy efficiency, the use of alternative energy sources, the environmental protection, etc.
Harmonizing national interests and achieving global energy security are the strategic aspect of Turkmen energy diplomacy aimed at full-scale integration of Turkmenistan in the international energy system. In recent years the Turkmen capital has been providing a platform for negotiating modern key aspects, and this International Conference on energy security is also of considerable importance for increasing the economic and geopolitical influence of our country, strengthening its position in the world arena and intensifying international cooperation in the energy sector – the basic sphere of global industry, social and economic development of human civilization.
