Discussed the direction of the Turkmen-Iranian economic cooperation

In the lively exchange of views on the potential and prospects of further cooperation resulted on July 16 in Tehran where next 12th session of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran was held.

The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere. There were discussed the present status and priorities of the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation in the context of earlier agreements.

Along with discussion of topical issues concerning the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and economic cooperation the members of the commission paid particular attention to traditional humanitarian cooperation as an integral component of international relations because of the historical spiritual and cultural community of the two neighboring nations.

Noting the practical importance of regular bilateral meetings and negotiations the participants expressed confidence that the activities of the commission will continue to promote full productive capacity and expansion of the Turkmen-Iranian cooperation which is based on the continuing goodwill of the parties a long-term positive experience of collaboration and mutual intention of two countries maximum potential to realize the great potential of cooperation in the mutual interest.

The results of the meeting were reflected in the adoption of a Protocol.

As already was noted in the framework of the meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation has been held a bilateral business forum.

The importance attached by the last meeting shows a high level delegation which included representatives of government and business circles of both countries. Thus according to the instructions of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov specifically to participate in the forum in the Turkmen delegation visited Tehran which included representatives of the Foreign Ministry, the leading specialists of ministries and the production sector, the Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

The Iranian side was represented by leaders of the 300 largest companies in the oil and gas, petrochemical, construction, engineering, food industry, trade and other associations and enterprises, as already known in Turkmenistan as well as those who are just getting ready to find its niche in the promising Turkmen market.

In the course of the forum the representatives of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have exchanged views on the current state and prospects of cooperation between the two neighboring states which are linked by ties of friendship and fruitful partnership. There was a positive growth of trade between the two countries and contribute to the capacity of which is made by representatives of the private sector and the economy, and expressed an intention to bring it up to 10 billion U.S. dollars.

Representatives of business circles of the friendly neighboring countries have expressed willingness to offer its Turkmen partners the development of advanced and innovative technologies in road construction, transport, food industry, as well as the supply of building materials, equipment, poultry industry, etc. In turn, the Turkmen side noted good prospects for increased exports to Iran of electricity and energy, enjoying ever-increasing demand on the world market as well as various other high quality products.

The forum confirmed their mutual interest in further development of the full cooperation and exchanged views on the progress of previous agreements including the holding in February 2013 in Ashgabat the seventh exhibition of products of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Turkmenistan, product exhibitions in Tehran as well as the opening of trading houses.

During the meeting to the participants were shown videos of Turkmenistan and Iran which provided detailed information on the existing economic potential and prospects of two countries and their rich cultural heritage.

In the course of the "round tables" and bilateral meetings between representatives of business circles and the various departments of the two countries a substantive conversation about the new joint projects which will further strengthen economic ties and neighborly relations between Turkmenistan and Iran.
