Vegetable Growers of the Balkan Velayat Harvest a Record Melon and Watermelon Crop This Year

This year, vegetable growers in the Balkan velayat plan to harvest 52,400 tons of melons and watermelons from 2,620 hectares of cultivated land. They are currently maintaining a steady pace in harvesting melons and watermelons from the fields. Particularly exemplary work is being carried out by experienced farmers, tenant growers, and members of daikhan associations and farms in the Bereket, Gyzylarbat, Magtymguly, Etrek, and Esenguly etraps.

A source of particular pride for the velayat is the emergence of both young and experienced groups of farmers. The tradition of mentorship has become widespread, enabling valuable knowledge and practical experience to be passed from one generation to the next. For example, this exchange of expertise has allowed horticulturists in the Magtymguly etrap to achieve high yields of pomegranates, figs, and walnuts, while farmers in the Etrek etrap have successfully cultivated olives. Meanwhile, growers in the Gyzylarbat and Bereket etraps have accumulated extensive experience in cultivating melon and watermelon crops.

The achievements of the agricultural workers of the Balkan velayat in melon cultivation—particularly in producing melons, watermelons, and various fruit varieties, as well as consistently obtaining abundant, high-quality harvests—deserve special recognition.

During these summer days, the velayat’s melon growers are striving to complete the harvest on time, ensuring that markets are well supplied with melons, vegetables, and fruits while making them available to consumers at affordable prices. Year after year, the region produces generous harvests of melon varieties regarded as true gifts of nature, including Vaharman, Gyzyldepe, Gulyabi, and Garrygyz.

The produce grown by the melon growers of the velayat is in high demand throughout the country. For this reason, specialists in the cultivation of environmentally friendly and competitive melon crops promptly deliver the harvested produce to markets and retail outlets across Turkmenistan.
