On October 17–18, 2026, the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) took place in Baghdad, Republic of Iraq, with a delegation from Turkmenistan in attendance. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.

During the session, participants addressed pressing issues on the international and regional agenda, the strengthening of peace and security and the expansion of political, trade-economic, and humanitarian cooperation among the Organization’s member states.

A significant outcome of the session was the adoption, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of a resolution titled "The Role of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security, and Sustainable Development within the OIC Space and Globally."

This resolution once again received the support of the Organization’s member states, reaffirming international recognition of the importance of a policy of neutrality as an effective instrument for strengthening peace, security and sustainable development.

During the session, the delegation of Turkmenistan delivered a statement outlining the country’s priority areas for cooperation with the OIC. Particular attention was given to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy initiatives aimed at fostering international trust, promoting dialogue and preventive diplomacy and ensuring the supremacy of international law.

In this context, the significance of declaring 2028 as the "Year of International Law", an initiative proposed by Turkmenistan and supported by the UN General Assembly, was highlighted.

Additionally, the expansion of cooperation in the fields of education, science, and culture was specifically addressed. In particular, it was noted that in 2026, Turkmenistan was granted observer status within the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), which opens up new opportunities for developing cooperation in these areas.

The Turkmen side also expressed interest in further strengthening its partnership with OIC member states across the trade, economic, energy, transport, communications, and humanitarian spheres.

Turkmenistan’s participation in the 52nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, along with the adoption of a resolution proposed by the Turkmen side, serves as further evidence of the consistent implementation of the country’s foreign policy, a policy aimed at strengthening peace, trust, and multilateral cooperation.
