A meeting with the members of the delegation led by Mohammed Al-Tarawneh, an international expert on human rights, a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital, was held at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

During a lively discussion the guests were briefed on major aspects of the policy of the Turkmen state and the large-scale social and economic reforms implemented in our country under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. It was noted that the ongoing reforms in Turkmenistan were society oriented.

The principle of equality of rights and freedoms, provision of equal conditions to persons with disabilities in all spheres of social and political life as consistent with the Constitution of Turkmenistan and universally recognized norms of international law was defined as a key priority of the policy pursued by the Turkmen leader that stood as guarantor of sustainable development and progress of the modern Turkmen state and society.

Having ratified the fundamental international humanitarian conventions including the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Facultative Protocol to it, our country promotes active collaboration with various UN agencies in this sphere, including the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In this regard it was emphasized that Turkmenistan took consistent efforts to meet all commitments undertaken and implement international standards and recommendations in the national legislation. In this context the international expert on human rights highly evaluated the ambitious reforms taking place in the country, including in the sphere of protection of human rights and freedoms.

Underlining the existing potential for further collaboration in the legal sector, Mr. Mohammed Al-Tarawneh and the members of the accompanying delegation expressed the willingness to enhance further fruitful mutually beneficial partnership with Turkmen parliamentarians.

During the visit the guests had the meetings at the Ministry of Construction and other ministries and departments.

The members of the delegation are expected to participate in the two-day seminar on international standards and advanced practices in public buildings, infrastructure and transport accessibility, which will be held in Ashgabat.
