Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan brisks up work

The Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan held a meeting that brought together members of the Central Commission, officials of the Office of the Central Commission, deputies of the Mejlis, journalists and heads of diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan to foreign countries, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital to participated in the Neutrality Day celebrations.

The agenda focused on the management of polling places which were opened at diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan in foreign countries for our compatriots, who would be travelling abroad on the election day. The key tasks assigned to members of the divisional election committees to elucidate the provisions of the Law of Turkmenistan “On the Election of the President of Turkmenistan” and the significance of the election campaign in the context of the democratic reforms taking place in the new historical epoch to young citizens of the country were identified, the list of voters and voting procedures was drawn up.

During the meeting the heads of Turkmen diplomatic mission reported on the work carried out at this stage and the preparations for the presidential election.

A meeting with the heads of the State Committee for Television, Radio and Cinematography of Turkmenistan, the State News Agency, national newspapers and TV and radio channels took place at the Central Commission in the afternoon.

It was noted during the meeting that a critical role in covering the election campaign and the presidential election was assigned to mass media. In this regard emphasis was placed on the need to take an integrated approach to preparing information materials and covering the activities of the Central Commission. Particular attention was paid to the importance of providing equal footing to all candidates, including equal airtime on TV and radio, an equal number of lines in printed media, etc.

The heads of national newspapers, TV and radio channels reported the preparation of TV and radio programmes, journal and newspaper articles and other publications in collaboration with political scientists and other specialists to raise awareness of citizens of Turkmenistan and help them to come to realize their civil liability and role in deepening the democratic reforms in life of the Turkmen society.

Summing up the discussions of the issues regarding the election campaign, the Central Commission called all participants of the election process to apply every effort to organise and hold the important social and political action in a proper manner.
