The Central Commission for Election and Referenda of Turkmenistan held a regular meeting focusing on the upcoming presidential election. It brought together members of the Central Commission and the Central Office of the Central Commission, national observers, journalists and chairmen and members of the initiative groups that nominate presidential candidates.

The main agenda item was the registration of initiative groups. After considering the minutes of meetings and the registration applications, the Central Commission registered the initiative groups in accordance with the established procedure. These included the initiative group that nominates Halach Etrap Khyakim M. Jumageldiev; the initiative group that nominates Vice Chairman of the State Sea and River Transport Service, Acting Chairman of the Lebapderyayollary Production Association R. Rozygulyev; the initiative group that nominates Director of the Maryazot Production Association of the Turkmenhimiya State Concern M. Charygulyev; the initiative group that nominates Babadaykhan Etrap Khyakim A. Kakabaev; the initiative group that nominates Head of the Turkmennebitgeofizika Department of the Turkmennebit State Concern N. Rejepov.

The initiative group leaders received registration cards and subscription lists.

Henceforth, the initiative groups will start to collect at least 10,000 signatures in 30 percent of towns and etraps throughout the country required in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan “On the Election of the President of Turkmenistan” to register nominees as candidates in the presidential election.

In this context the fact that the citizens’ participation in the presidential nomination campaign through forming initiative groups is increasingly broadened is obvious. It testifies to the active involvement of citizens in this form of management of public affairs and promotion of the human rights as an essential development factor.

It is obvious today that the upcoming presidential election will be held on the alternative basis in compliance with norms of international law and became crucial evidence for the triumph of the lofty democratic principles in the Turkmen society.
