Turkmenistan commemorated the first President of Turkmenistan S. A. Niyazov on December 21. The cabinet ministers, high-ranking officials of military and law enforcement agencies, khyakimliks of Ashgabat and Ahal Velayat, ministries and departments, deputies of the Mejlis, Turkmen diplomats accredited to foreign states, the mullahs, the elders from the regions and the Turkmen capital, representatives of the public organisations gathered together in Gypjak settlement in the morning.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov drove to the square in front of the Mausoleum and the Mosque of Spirituality.
The Turkmen leader headed to the Mausoleum and laid a wreath of flowers. Then the cabinet ministers, representatives of the public organisations, Turkmen diplomats accredited to foreign states and high-ranking officials of ministries and departments laid flowers. A remembering prayer was offered up.
President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Vice Premiers and high-ranking military and law enforcement officials went downstairs to the burial place of the first President of Turkmenistan and his relatives where the Mufti of Turkmenistan offered up a prayer for the peace of soul of the diseased.
Addressing ceremony participants, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said the first President of Turkmenistan Saparmurat Ataevich Niyazov had laid the foundation for independence of our country. The significant work had been done under his leadership to promote various sectors of the national economy and the national culture. The first President of Turkmenistan cherished the history and spiritual heritage of the Turkmen people. Having led the country for many years, Saparmurat Turkmenbashi took consistent steps to enhance the international prestige of the Turkmen state.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that through the efforts of the first President of Turkmenistan our country had gained the status of neutrality that had played a crucial role in the present epoch in enhancing sovereignty, building up constructive relations with all countries of the world and raising the international prestige of the Motherland.
The President gave the floor to the Mufti who offered up the tebärek public prayer. After a commemorative meal the aýat-töwir prayer was offered for the peace of the soul of the first President of independent neutral Turkmenistan.
