Galla bairamy celebrations

The country solemnly and widely celebrated the national holiday – Galla bairamy dedicated to selfless labour of farmers and machine operators that marks the finish of the harvest campaign, the solemn day when homage to the fertile land that responds to the unceasing care of farmers with rich harvests is being paid.

The main celebrations in honour of the national holiday Galla bairamy were held at Ashgabat Music Centre in the National Independence Park, where the cabinet members, the heads and deputies of Mejlis, ministries and departments, public organisations, media representatives, students, citizens and guests of the Turkmen capital gathered together.


The elders, artistic groups and, of course, best grain growers, who had gained outstanding labour achievements, arrived in Ashgabat from all over the country to participate in the festive events.

The exhibition presenting the achievements of Turkmenistan’s agro-industrial sector as well as a wide range of agricultural products was arranged on the vast territory of the park area. The products of the grain industry displayed at the exhibition aroused particular interest among the visitors.


The varieties of agricultural crops as well as the potential of Turkmenistan’s seed growing sector were presented in one of the colourfully decorated pavilions. The exhibition also showcased the achievements of Turkmen cattle breeders as well as the high yielding wheat varieties, which have showed good results in our country. The decoration of the pavilions of different regions of our country were wheat ears of the new harvest of ak bugdai that had ripened on the golden fields in the blessed Turkmen land, famous Turkmen ‘chorek’ baked in ‘tamdyr’ and a variety of bakery and macaroni products and confectionery. The exhibition provided numerous visitors with an opportunity to know how agriculture developed in our country, how our ancestors cultivated lands, grinded grain and made bread. The works of fine and decorative arts dedicated to golden grain and delicious ‘chorek’ vivified the exhibition.


The official part of the celebrations continued at Ashgabat Concert Centre. The names of the best grain growers, machine operators and combine operators, who had gained outstanding labour achievements this year, were announced from the high rostrum. Valuable gifts were presented on behalf of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the heroes of the 2014 harvest campaign. Cultural and arts workers from all over Turkmenistan dedicated a gala concert that became a gem in the necklace of the Galla bairamy celebrations to diligent and selfless grain growers.

The Galla bairamy celebrations were held in the administrative centres of the regions of the country, towns and villages, where the festivities, concerts and cultural and sports actions were held in honour of diligent agricultural workers on that day.
