The national planting campaign started in Turkmenistan with participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. 257,000 coniferous, deciduous, fruit, and other trees were planted in the country this day.
The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Vice Premiers, heads of military and law-enforcement agencies, ministries and departments, deputies of the National Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Turkmenistan, public organisations, higher educational institutions, and mass media greeted the President of Turkmenistan.
By tradition, the Turkmen leader planted a tree starting the national planting campaign. All those present followed the Turkmen leader’s example. Almost all industries of the national economy of our country, ministries and departments took part in the large-scale planting campaign. Currently 60-70% of the territory are planted with conifers - pine, arborvitae, juniper, cypress. The irrigated green belts that surround the Turkmen capital improve its microclimate. Studies prove that forest plantations and enrichment of vegetation on hillsides increase the biological activity of soil, contribute to carbon sequestration and clean up contaminants in the environment.
Upon completion of the event, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited all participants of the celebrations to the generous Turkmen dastarkhan to taste the dishes of the Turkmen national cuisine that is an integral part of the Turkmen people's culture. The inspired performances of the Turkmen artists - musicians, singers and dancing groups adorned the festivities.
