A meeting with an UNDP expert, Policy Advisor on climate change of the United Nations Development Programme Bratislava Regional Centre, Mrs. Gabriela Fisherova, who was on a visit to the Turkmen capital, was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting the guest was briefed on major aspects of the domestic and foreign policy of the Turkmen state that had acceded to a number of the UN fundamental conventions, including the Framework Convention on Climate Change, and continuously met its commitments, particularly to efficiently using water resources.

Noting that the UNDP welcomed and supported the Turkmen leader’s constructive initiatives, Mrs. Gabriela Fisherova underlined the importance of the proposal put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly to establish the specialized structure – the UN Interregional Centre for Climate Change and offer it necessary infrastructure in the capital of Turkmenistan, Ashgabat.

Emphasis was placed on significant efforts Turkmenistan took to accumulate the positive experience in environmental cooperation on a global scale and the implementation of environment management principles and standards in the ongoing social and economic development programmes at the present stage.

Exchanging views, the sides discussed priority aspects of collaboration in this field that successfully developed in the framework of Turkmenistan-UN cooperation and within the other authoritative international organisations.

During the visit to Ashgabat the UNDP expert held a meeting at the Ministry of Finance. The visit programme includes the meetings at the Ministry of Nature Protection and the Ministry of Economy and Development.
