A delegation of the International Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital led by Executive Director Armen Smbatian, was received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The meeting agenda focused on the ways to promote humanitarian partnership within the CIS and the plans for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation. It was noted that our country as an associated member sought to promote a constructive dialogue with the CIS states in the bilateral and multilateral formats and built up these relations on the basis of friendship, good neighbourliness and the principles of equal mutually beneficial partnership. Vivid evidence for the success of the progressive foreign policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is the decision of the CIS Summit to elect Turkmenistan for the presidency over the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2012. In this context it was emphasized that Turkmenistan intended to facilitate the enhancement of effective cooperation within the CIS during the term of its presidency.
Noting that the main objective of the International Foundation for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states is to develop an effective mechanism for humanitarian cooperation between the signatories to the Treaty of the Foundation as well as on bilateral level, the members of the delegation expressed the interest in enhancing partnership with Turkmenistan, including through an implementation of joint projects in the spheres of culture, education, science, cultural heritage study, information and communications technologies, sports and tourism.
The guests were received at the Ministry of Culture and the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan where an exchange of views on prospects of fruitful cooperation took place.
