Iranian commodities exhibition opens in Ashgabat

The VI Specialized Commodities Exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran started its work at the Sergi Köşgi Exhibition Centre. The exhibition is organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan.

Over 50 Iranian companies including producers and exporters of electrical devices and equipment, building materials and finishing agents, plastic and polymeric articles, oil and gas pipes and the broad range of spectrum of consumer goods such as furniture, footwear, food products, textiles and household chemicals arrived in the Turkmen capital are represented at the exposition of the economic achievements of the friendly neighbouring country.


These Iranian companies are the leaders in their sectors and represent the largest industrial centres of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Among them are Turkmenistan’s long-term partners who have been operating on the promising Turkmen market that is continuously growing interest to foreign businessmen.

The ceremony of opening the exhibition brought together heads of Turkmen ministries and departments, diplomatic representations and missions accredited to Turkmenistan, journalists, representatives of public organisations, numerous citizens and guests of the Turkmen capital. Turkmen cultural and arts workers welcomed the exhibition participants and guests of honour with bright music and dance performances.

The welcoming statement of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to forum participants was presented during the opening ceremony. “Cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran that has the tremendous economic potential is a key vector of the foreign policy strategy of the Turkmen state. Mutual interest and willingness to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations facilitated working out a common approach to promoting cooperation initially based on mutual confidence and benefit,” underlined the Turkmen leader.


The Iranian businessmen expressed deep gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan for providing an opportunity to organize the exhibition that would help to bring bilateral cooperation to a higher level. The ceremony participants highly evaluated the high dynamics of Turkmen-Iranian relations built on mutual respect and confidence.

In their opening remarks the Masoud Movahedi, Senior Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Iran noted that this landmark event was an illustration of the centuries-old traditions of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and aimed at enhancing mutually beneficial partnership between Turkmenistan and Iran.

It has become a tradition to hold the commodities exhibition of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ashgabat in late February which promotes economic cooperation between the two friendly countries and enhances friendly good neighbourly relations between the two nations. As usual the exposition of commodities manufactured by Iranian producers attracts many visitors and gives them an insight in modern Iran and its recent achievements.


The exposition of motor cars exhibited is arranged by the Iran Khodro Ashgabat Company on the first floor of the large exhibition area of the Sergi Köşgi Exhibition Centre. Some of these vehicles are new for the Turkmen market. There are dozens of pavilions where the broad range of commodities for builders and hydraulic engineers are displayed. Metal pipes, doors of different models and sizes, Portland cement, lightweight concrete, building materials and finishing agents, electricity cables and many other products are displayed.

An adornment of the Iranian expositions are traditional Iranian carpets, tapestries, household articles and many other attributes of the rich history, unique art and ancient culture of the neighbouring nation. In particular, the exposition includes handicrafts and pieces of arts created by craftsmen of Northern Khorasan.

According to exhibition participants, Turkmen-Iranian trade and economic cooperation has the great prospects due to the constructive foreign policy strategy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the conditions conducive to promoting investment projects in Turkmenistan, collaboration with foreign partners, including Iranian businessmen, in implementing the ambitious programmes for modernization of key sectors of the national economy where modern materials are used and energy-intensive and environmentally friendly technologies based on scientific advances are applied.
