UNODC delegation was received at the Mejlis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

The delegation led by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Advisor Ms. Kimberli Balkli, who arrived in the Turkmen capital, was received at the ministries and departments of the country, including the Mejlis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the guests were briefed on the key trends of the socially oriented internal policy of the Turkmen state as well as grandiose changes in all spheres of the state and social life. In this regard, it was noted the importance of the regular improvement of the law-making activities of the National Parliament of the country to ensure legislative support to the large-scale reforms.

Speaking about the prospects for cooperation with the National Parliament of Turkmenistan, Ms. Kimberli Balkli and the members of the delegation expressed their aspiration to widely use the existing potential of the constructive partnership.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the meeting participants discussed the priority aspects of joint collaboration successfully developing within the framework of the bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNODC as well as within the United Nations Organization.

As is known, as a member of relevant UN treaties and conventions as well as many authoritative UN structures, including the UN Office on Drugs and Crime for 2012-2015, our country has fulfilled the undertaken international commitments in this sphere.

A wide range of the fundamental problems that require joint efforts of the world community to address the global threats were defined during the meeting. In this context, the UNODC Representative underlined that the world community widely supported the international initiatives put forward by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the aim to foster peace and security on the planet, to enhance universal struggle against illicit drug use and other challengers of the present time.

Exchanging their views, the meeting participants highly appreciated the joint work carried out in this sphere and reaffirmed the mutual interest in further consolidation of efforts in the name of security and sustainable development in the region and the world as well.

Within the framework of the visit, the UNODC delegation held meetings at the relevant ministries and departments of the country.
