The sitting dedicated to the annual review of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for Turkmenistan for 2010-2015 took place in the Turkmen capital. The meeting brought together the heads and senior specialists of a number of ministries, departments and public organizations of the country, deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, heads and specialists of the representatives of the UN leading agencies accredited in Ashgabat, including the UNDP, UNICEF, UNHCR, WHO.
The meeting agenda included discussion of results achieved within the implementation of the medium-term UNDAF programme and definition of the prospects for further cooperation for 2012.
It was noted that the main goal of the complex Programme concluded between the Government of Turkmenistan and the UN Development Programme in August, 2009, was widening the bilateral partnership to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and fulfilling the key principles of the international conventions ratified by the Turkmen state. The document drafted in line with the National Programme of Social and Economic Development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030 given the national interests and priorities of the state development of our country in the modern epoch, satisfies the key principles of the foreign-policy strategy implemented under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
It was underlined during the meeting that Turkmenistan aspired to use the high status of the permanent positive neutrality adopted by the Resolution of the UN General Assembly for strengthening peace and universal security, establishing mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries and leading international agencies, and the UN in particular.
The meeting participants called for continuation of constructive dialogue and specified the plans for further cooperation within the UNDAF Programme.
