The implementation of international commitments of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights have been reviewed

The Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan held a regular meeting on ensuring Turkmenistan's compliance with international obligations on human rights and international humanitarian law, which was attended by representatives of the Mejlis, ministries and departments, public organizations of the country. During the meeting it was summed up the work of the Commission over the past period of 2016 year to discuss issues related to the main activities of this structure.

As noted, during the reporting period it was carried out a series of measures aimed at further democratization and strengthening the legal foundations of Turkmen society. By ratifying the most important convention of the United Nations including in the field of human rights, Turkmenistan is taking practical steps to implement the regulations of these instruments. A good example of this is successfully implemented on the initiative of Prezident Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov comprehensive legal reform, under of which it is consistently improving national legislation, taking into account the priorities of socio-economic development of the country and the fundamental principles of international law.

The meeting discussed issues the practical implementation of the "National Human Rights Action Plan of Turkmenistan for 2016-2020 " and the "National Action Plan of Turkmenistan on Combating Human Trafficking for 2016-2018" approved by the special decree of President this year. As emphasized that these documents are aimed at improving the work of state bodies and public organizations to ensure the fundamental human rights and freedoms, as well as the implementation of international humanitarian law into domestic legislation and practice. In fact, demonstrating their commitment to the highest principles of humanism, democracy and modern legal society, our country is making a significant contribution to solving the urgent problems of global development, including humanitarian, actively cooperating in this area with the competent international organizations.

The report on the implementation of the "National Plan of Action on Gender Equality in Turkmenistan for 2015-2020 years" was heard. It was stressed that the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of women, strengthening their role in the socio-political, economic and cultural life, the provision of public benefits, ensuring the conditions conducive for a decent life and creative labor are important factors for sustainable development of the Turkmen society in the context of carried out successfully socially-oriented leadership policy of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. As noted, the importance of raising public awareness on gender issues, the further improvement of the legislation of Turkmenistan in this area to strengthen the family institution and to promote marriage and family values to be held by the country's large-scale reforms on national health care including maternal and child health care which goes in line with international standards compliance.

During the meeting, it was heard the report on the visits to Geneva (Switzerland) for the 105 th meeting on the International Labour Organization, which was attended by a delegation of our country.

At a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission also considered a number of other issues.
