55th meeting of the Council of Heads of States of the CIS’s States-Participants ended. The meeting was led by Turkmenistan this year. It was attended by leaders and delegates of the national statistical services of the CIS countries, the CIS Interstate Statistics Committee, the number of international organizations.
The meeting discussed the following themes: the optimization of the structure of the CIS, in particular, the regional cooperation in the field of statistics and methodology, preparation to 2020 round of population census in the CIS region , the work program of international comparisons in the CIS region, an overview of current practices of data indicates of GDP in the CIS countries as of 2015, the formation of the list of indicators proposed for the assessment of sustainable development, the draft work program of the CIS Interstate statistical Committee for 2017, the chairmanship in the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the States-Participants of the Commonwealth in 2017 and other issues .
In accordance with the regulations, the reports on the work of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the States-Participants of the Commonwealth and the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, in 2016 were heard.
At the meeting, it was reviewed the work progress of the "Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics," in the CIS region, and will also be heard about the project of improving the statistical infrastructure of the member states of the CIS.
The meeting participants positively evaluated the activities of the Council of Heads of Statistical Services of the States-Participants of the Commonwealth and the Interstate Statistical Committee of the CIS for the implementation of the CIS supreme bodies on resolving decisions to strengthen the analysis of the economic development and integration processes, the preparation of analytical and information and forecasting materials for the general economic situation, dynamics and trends of economic cooperation of the member states of the Commonwealth.
In addition, as part of this forum it was held a conference for the exchange of experiences on methodologies and structural survey in agriculture, organized jointly with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.
During the exchange of views, the members of the Council stressed the need for regular meetings, on which it was produced agreed decisions, directly contributing to the development of national statistics, optimization of the statistical agencies and their effective interaction.
By the end of the Council meeting it was taken relevant decisions.
