President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov attended the ceremony of laying flowers to the magnificent and grandiose memorial complex, the Independence Monument, which is a symbol of sovereignty of the beloved Motherland gained 20 years ago, to mark the main national holiday.
Following the tradition, thousands of Turkmen citizens and guests to Ashgabat, who had arrived to participate in the celebrations in honour of the 20th anniversary of independence of Turkmenistan, gathered together early in the morning in the National Park of Independence in the south of Ashgabat. Among them were the cabinet ministers, the heads of the Mejlis, national ministries and departments, representatives of the public organisations of the Galkynys National Movement, ambassadors of Turkmenistan to foreign states, the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and international organisations, the elders, specialists of organisations and enterprises and students.
Ceremony participants and guests cordially greeted the Turkmen leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov whom the new historical epoch marked by the unprecedented changes in all spheres of life of the state and society is associated with. The changes launched throughout the country have laid the foundation for rapid, social, economic and cultural development of the country and enhancement of the prestige of our Motherland in the world arena.
In a solemn atmosphere President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov laid a wreath of flowers to the magnificent memorial complex. This complex is designed to immortalize the sacred date of gaining independence in the people’s memory.
Following the Turkmen leader, ceremony participants and guests laid wreaths and flowers to the monument. The endless stream of people filled nearly all area around the Independence Monument which turned into the boundless sea of sweet-smelling flowers a few minutes later.
